Since his street hockey days as a lad, Josh has had a passion for sports and television. He grew up in Cochrane, Alberta before a series of moves across Alberta and Montana, including stops at Medicine Hat and Camrose, the latter which where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Alberta Augustana Campus in 2013. During that time, Josh played volleyball, winning an ACAC bronze medal playing for Medicine Hat in his second year and being named his team’s most valuable player in his final year at Augustana.
Upon graduating, he decided to pursue his dream of broadcasting, instead of working in education, and enrolled in the Radio and Television program at NAIT. While in school, he worked for NAIT Athletics as a PA and Play-By-Play announcer and for the student paper as the sports editor. In January, he came to Newcap for his practicum semester, learning all of the ins-and-outs of the newsroom cycle. This spring, Josh received his diploma from NAIT after completing his practicum in April.
Josh’s long-term ambition is host a sports talk-show or do Play-By-Play at the pro-sports level. In his spare time, he continues to play organized sports, including in the adult mixed volleyball league in Lloydminster (2016 Champs!) and the Camrose Beach Volleyball League, which he co-founded and still runs. His other passions include biking, going to the cinema, film trivia, a good book and a hot cup of tea.
